Compatibility
The MAIN-TOOL App V4 is compatible with Android (version 4.4+), iOS (version 10+) and Windows (version 10) devices. The BC version must be at least "18".
Display
The display of the app may vary depending on the operating system of the mobile device, e.g. functions may be located at different positions on the page. However, the range of functions is identical on all mobile devices.
Provision, installation and setup of the app
The MAIN-TOOL Mobile App is based on the app "Anveo Mobile App for Microsoft Dynamics 365 BC/ Dynamics NAV", which can be found in the respective app stores.
Synchronization
The MAIN-TOOL app is designed as an "offline app" so that after a one-off synchronization, e.g. at the start of work, the required maintenance tasks can be processed and documented on the mobile device without the need for a permanent data connection.
It is also advantageous for the "handling of the application" to complete all process steps when processing the maintenance order without activating "background synchronization", as this is the only way to ensure maximum flexibility when entering and processing data on the mobile device.
This is because one difference between the app and the BC web client is that certain entries are directly synchronized with "Save" if the "Mobile setup" is configured accordingly (including activated background synchronization) and are then no longer available for processing via the app.
The app therefore has two synchronization options for updating data, as full automatic synchronization is only carried out when the app is first set up:
- Manual data synchronization can be initiated by clicking on the synchronization button. This is recommended if a maintenance activity has been completed and is to be booked as in the BC web client. Clicking on "Save" initially only saves the details on the end device and allows them to be reopened, edited or deleted in the "Already added" submenu until synchronization.
- Activation of "Background synchronization", which carries out synchronizations in the background without the user having any influence in order to synchronize the data between BC and the mobile application, with the effects on the (re-)editing options as described above. Automated synchronization is only triggered by certain events, e.g. switching to the main menu/tile view.
A connection to a network must always be available for any synchronization. If no network is available while background synchronization is triggered, it will not be repeated as soon as the network is available again.
If information is to be sent to the user that new work orders are pending, push messages can be configured, for which a third-party service must be used. The message only contains the "order number" and "description" and is to be understood as a hint for the mobile user to retrieve new order information via synchronization on the end device depending on the situation.
Symbols used
Depending on the operating system of the mobile device, different icons are used.
